May 8, 2010 - First Club Meeting of 2010!

Finally - A Meeting!

Until this meeting, we have had nothing but FIELD events for 2010! It has been Great! You could say that we are really serious about getting ready for Field Day in June.

Fred WA5BUC and Ed N5EM had a lot to talk about this month as we reviewed all of the FIELD Ops in 2010. Ed had some interesting items to show, as did Andy W5ACM.

Fred takes center stage as we discuss upcoming ham-ventions and look for more activities for Tom Bass Park III in Pearland.

Here's Andy's Ft Tuthill 80 transceiver. His first QSO was with a station in Nebraska. It is a really FUN rig!

You would think that there is nothing to a QRP 80M CW transceiver... You are Wrong! The Ft Tut is a well-engineered rig.

It must be Balloon Season again! Andy brought in a couple dual-band Fireball balloon beacons. This year the plan is to have temperature data on 10M and 20M. These are nice, simple PCBs. Two Lithium batteries and some thin antenna wire complete the payloads.

Andy passed out info sheets for the upcoming BLT 25.5 flight.

Ed brought in an example of how he reworks aluminum panels that have "extra" holes that need filling.

Ed's latest project is this Si570 Controller with LCD display. It will make a fine interface and core for a new QRP rig.

Don't miss our next HQRP event - The North Texas Plano Hamcom!
